Work as Selfless Service (Karma Yoga)

According to our understanding and experience, work (including voluntary work) is an essential part of a person’s sense of purpose in life and thus of their spiritual development.

Tikun Olam תיקון עולם, Amal Salih عمل الصالح – good deeds, motivation to work, and labor in support of a global and peaceful economic community are fundamental expressions of physical spirituality. These can be easily activated and implemented, especially in times of economic prosperity.

Ora et labora – good deeds and work are comparable to prayer and are therefore among the spiritual tools available to every human being.

Prayer and ritual before starting work: Light a candle (if possible), connect with a divine form, the formless divine, the universe, nature, or simply with yourself. Recite the following affirmation either internally, in a whisper, or out loud: "Please give me the purpose, the structure, the razor-sharp focus, the efficiency, the effectiveness, the courage, the motivation, and the resilience to solve every single problem today."
